The Kalamkari Process: From Craft to Cloth

Pre-Production (Drawing & Block Printing)
Skilled artisans begin by free-hand sketching motifs on fabric using a tamarind-pen dipped in natural dyes. These motifs are drawn with inspiration from nature, mythology and folklore. Then carved wooden blocks are inked with natural dyes and stamped onto the fabric. -
Production (Dyeing & Washing)
After printing, the fabric is immersed in baths of natural dyes—derived from plant extracts, tree bark, roots and minerals—to build rich, layered colour. It is repeatedly washed in flowing water to remove excess dye, fix the colours, and enhance durability. -
Post-Production & Inspection
Every metre of Kalamkari fabric we supply undergoes rigorous checks: colour-fastness tests, shrinkage tests, extra spotting inspection. We pre-meter and inspect the fabric, then ensure weather-safe packaging ready for global delivery.
